The city-ranking team, including their mascot, Mo the owl, at Movoto Real Estate’s blog (“The lighter side of real estate”) ranked the top 10 best cities in Illinois based on a variety of criteria. They ranked the 50 top municipalities in the state from 1 to 50 (1 being the best) in six categories: amenities, cost of livingcrimeeducationemployment and home value. The cities are assigned a “Big Deal” score and ranked from one to 10. The state’s biggest city, Chicago, did not make the top 10 list. Nor, for that matter, did any downstate cities.
Other factors, such as median income and tax burden, were not factored in, but may play an important role in quality of living. Movoto also ranked the top 10 most affordable places in Illinois, and none of the cities on the “best” list appeared on the most affordable list.
You know what else sounds good about Northbrook? Their education system. Northbrook came in first here, 15 percent higher than the rest of Illinois when it comes to high school graduation rates. But that shouldn’t be a surprise, really, with the quintessential Glenbrook North High School—one of the main places used to film the teen classic, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”. In fact, director John Hughes even attended Gleenbrook North himself.
