At least 17,316 American soldiers have been wounded in the Afghanistan war theater since Obama was inaugurated for his first term, according to a count maintained by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD).  

Overall, according to the Pentagon, 20,017 United State troops have been wounded in action (WIA) since Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) began 13 years ago today.  

OEF is the official name of the Afghanistan war theater, which also involves military operations in Guantanamo Bay (Cuba), Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Jordan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, the Philippines, Seychelles, Sudan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, and Yemen.  

Most, just about all, OEF-related activity has taken place in Afghanistan.

Holy Muslims: More Than 40 Killed in Deadly Car Bombing

If a clear sign was needed that things in Afghanistan are not going according to plan, today’s car bomb in Paktika is about as clear as it’s going to get. Killing at least 89 people and injuring dozens more, the suicide bomb exploded as a vehicle loaded with explosives passed by a busy market on Tuesday morning.

Mohamma Raza Kharoti, the district governor, told Reuters news agency that “the number of wounded will rise to more than 100 and the number of those martyred will also increase.”

Though it is one of the most casualty-ridden acts of civilian violence in recent memory, it wasn’t the only bomb that went off in Afghanistan on Tuesday. In Kabul, a remote-controlled roadside bomb killed two people and wounded five others, drawing condemnation from President Hamid Karzai. The victims of the Kabul bombing were members of Karzai’s media office. But while the Taliban readily took credit for the Kabul roadside bomb, they deny having any part of the one in Paktika, claiming that violence against civilians is outside of their M.O.

Taliban torch hundreds of 'NATO-supplying' fuel trucks near Kabul

Taliban fighters have been attacking convoys bringing supplies for NATO-led forces in landlocked Afghanistan for years now, but tankers have recently become their primary target.

The previous attack on fuel tankers took place June 19, when an attack of Taliban suicide bombers on a convoy of fuel trucks at the Pakistan border triggered a firefight between police guards and Islamist insurgents, resulting in 37 fuel trucks being burned.

ISAF troops, the US-led international contingent in Afghanistan, get most of their fuel supplies via the Pakistani port of Karachi.

The ISAF supply route via Pakistan has never been secure, because of the Taliban’s activities there and because the authorities in Islamabad and locals have more than once blocked the route because of thedrone war the US government is waging against the Islamists in the country, and also because of friendly fire incidents involving the US Air Force.

It is good that Sgt. Bergdahl has been freed, but the Gitmo detainees exchanged for him are seasoned Taliban jihadis who are going to return to the jihad — and now that this precedent has been set, there will be more attempts to capture U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan.

Robert is correct in his prediction that Terrorists will see Kidnapping Americans as a good way to achieve their ends, but there is ONE vital piece of History being ignored:

The Long History of Israel's Prisoner Swaps with the PLO, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, ad nauseum.

For decades the Israelis swapped prisoners with the Terrorist group that had been attacking them since their founding in 1947.  When the Palestinians first proposed prisoner swaps as a means to end the Jihad attacks, the Israeli public was all for it.  Things changed quickly when the first prisoner swaps with the PLO proved to be useless as the attacks continued, and soon accelerated to the Suicide bombers.

Decades went by, prisoner swaps with the Palestinian Terror groups continued, but the attacks continued and so did the deadly suicide bombings.  Even as "Peace Talks" began the attacks continued. The pattern was always the same: a swap of land and/or prisoners was promised to result in peace.

It NEVER DID!

The suicide bombings continued at a deadly rate until the Separation Wall was begun. Even after this desperate step was begun, the Pals continued their Jihad Terror and suicide bombings.

It was ONLY WITH THE COMPLETION OF THE SEPARATION WALL that a reasonable level of peace and safety was achieved for Israel.  Now, the Pals bitch about the inconvenience it causes them!

The PRISONER SWAPS WITH ISRAEL ONLY LEAD TO MORE JIHAD ATTACKS and the PRISONER SWAPS WITH THE TALIBAN/AQ will ONLY LEAD TO MORE KIDNAPPINGS.

Breaking with its long-held policy of refusing to negotiate with terrorist organizations, the White House has agreed to release five Taliban prisoners in exchange for U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who has been held by the Talibanin Afghanistan since June 30, 2009.

The peaceful transfer of Bergdahl into the hands of American special-operations forces took place on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. ET.

Good that this hero is free,  but negotiating with the Terrorists is something we will regret. And if this precedent leads to the same lopsided prisoner swaps that the Israelis have engaged in for years with the Pallies, we are in BIG TROUBLE!

Chicago doctor killed in Afghanistan was training residents (Retweet)

A Chicago doctor was among three American physicians killed when an Afghan security guard opened fire at a Kabul hospital on Thursday morning, officials said.

Dr. Jerry Umanos, who had worked in Kabul for seven years, was remembered by workers at Lawndale Christian Health Center in Chicago.

"We have lost a very, very dear friend and devoted colleague," Dr. Bruce Rowell, the chief officer at the hospital, said during a morning press conference.
