Great ideas from Hootsuite CEO - How to Get 5 Million Customers with Zero Ad Budget

 
A little while back, I wrote a post about how new startups may be better off focusing less on buzz and marketing and more on product quality and building organic support. After all, we’ve seen so many super hyped, promising new businesses fall flat lately, especially in the tech world.
To illustrate my points, I used the story of how my company, HootSuite, went from 0 to 5 million users with barely any advertising budget.
As usual, many of you left interesting and insightful comments on the topic, including Khaled Kobrosli who asked: “How did you reach 5 million users in 3 years; how did you let people know about your product?”
And Kundu B.S. who followed up with: “What were some of the specific techniques you used to get from, let's say 500,000 (at which point you probably know it works) to 5 million (when you probably know it's fine-tuned)?”

Turkish Twitter Users Circumvent Ban Via HootSuite - It is TIME TO FIGHT BACK!!!!

Yesterday, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan announced an attempt to “eradicate” Twitter. The move was a response to criticism on the social network of widespread corruption in his government.
The ban has so far proved ineffective. Today, The Guardian reported that Twitter users in Turkey have managed to send 2.5 million tweets since the announcement. Turkey ranks 8th in the world in Twitter penetration, and the government’s recent efforts to curb its citizens access to social media do not appear to be diminishing their enthusiasm for it.
HootSuite has emerged as one of the tools Twitter users are turning to as a means of circumventing the ban. Our traffic from Turkey has tripled in 24 hours. Through HootSuite, users can access their Twitter accounts, as well as Facebook, Google+ Pages and LinkedIn accounts. This follows the pattern we observed during the Arab Spring uprising in Egypt.

This is EXACTLY WHY it is high time to FIGHT BACK! The enemies of the USA and West have been attacking our computer networks, phone networks and more for decades and we have done little more than to play fix it.

How To Share Full Images To Twitter Using HootSuit

HootSuite has added a new feature today. Now, HootSuite Pro users can share images to Twitter using Twitter's native pic.twitter capability, which results in full images being displayed in the Twitter timeline.
Previously, HootSuite Pro and HootSuite Enterprise users were able to share images, but the images were uploaded and saved via ow.ly links and only shown on Twitter as part of the expanded tweet. As HootSuite notes, images in Tweets have been shown to increase engagement rates by three to four times over messages without photos, so anything we can do to increase the visual nature of our tweets will help increase engagement.
