US found chemical weapons in Iraq – many are now in hands of ISIS

The Times hastens to assure us that these chemical weapons do not constitute a vindication of the Bush Administration’s claims regarding Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction, and that is probably true: if these weapons really did validate the Bush claims, then it would have been suicidal for the Bush Administration to have kept them a secret. On the other hand, policymakers in Washington seem bent on doing so many stupid things these days, you never know.

And Jdey is, of course, by no means alone in this: many other jihadis could return from the Islamic State to the U.S., Canada, Britain and Western Europe, and wreak havoc back “home.” By going to fight for the Islamic State, the jihadis have effectively declared themselves to be traitors, as the Islamic State has declared that it is at war with the U.S. and other Western countries. Thus they have forfeited the rights and privileges of citizens, and should not be allowed back into their countries of origin. But that, apparently, would be “Islamophobic.”

Comparing the Quran with the acts of Islamic State, one understands that what is coming out of Syria these days is Islam 101: “So when you meet those who disbelieve [in battle], strike [their] necks until, when you have inflicted slaughter upon them, then secure their bonds, and either [confer] favor afterwards or ransom [them] until the war lays down its burdens. According to Islamic law, Muslim men can take “captives of the right hand” (Qur’an 4:3, 4:24, 33:50). The Qur’an says: “O Prophet! Lo! We have made lawful unto thee thy wives unto whom thou hast paid their dowries, and those whom thy right hand possesseth of those whom Allah hath given thee as spoils of war” (33:50). 4:3 and 4:24 extend this privilege to Muslim men in general. The Egyptian Sheikh Abu-Ishaq al-Huwayni declared in May 2011 that “we are in the era of jihad,” and that meant Muslims would take slaves. In a subsequent interview he elaborated:

Jihad is only between Muslims and infidels. Spoils, slaves, and prisoners are only to be taken in war between Muslims and infidels. Muslims in the past conquered, invaded, and took over countries. This is agreed to by all scholars—there is no disagreement on this from any of them, from the smallest to the largest, on the issue of taking spoils and prisoners. The prisoners and spoils are distributed among the fighters, which includes men, women, children, wealth, and so on

Americans have joined ISIS

ERBIL, Iraq (CBS News/CBSDC/AP) — The Sunni militant group in Iraq is a force roughly 3,000 strong and includes some Americans, a senior intelligence official told CBS News on Tuesday.

The majority of fighters in the group, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, are of Iraqi and Syrian origin.

In all, up to 10,000 are fighting with the group, 3,000 in Iraq and another 7,000 in Syria, the intelligence official said. Between 3,000 and 5,000 are foreigners, though how many of those are in Iraq is difficult to assess.

Fears of Terrorist Attacks in NY

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) – Mayor Bill de Blasio says New York City is “constantly vigilant” against any terror threat posed by the recent violence in Iraq.

The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL, has already captured major cities in Iraq and is threatening its capital.

A U.S. official said this week that its leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, said “I’ll see you guys in New York” when he was released in 2009.

“A message posted online eulogizes Salman Ashrafi, a Canadian member of the ultra-extremist Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham, as a ‘brave warrior’ and goads Muslims to ‘prove their manhood’ by following in his footsteps.” Not that this has anything to do with Islam, of course. To think otherwise will land you with charges of “Islamophobia.”
