These fictional soldiers may be the ones Obama was counting on to fight the Islamic State — after all, his “vetted moderates” among the “Syrian rebels” are no more real than these guys.

Iraq’s prime minister Haidar al-Abadi has promised to crackdown on corruption after an investigation uncovered the existence of 50,000 “ghost soldiers”.

“The prime minister revealed the existence of 50,000 fictitious names” in the military, Mr Abadi’s office said in a statement.

The 50,000 jobs were equivalent to almost four full army division

BAGHDAD, Oct 23 (Reuters) – Islamic State wrested a Sunni Muslim village in western Iraq on Thursday from tribal defenders who put up weeks of fierce resistance, and the insurgents tightened a siege of the Yazidi minority on a mountain in the north.

The attacks showed Islamic State’s continued operating resilience despite air strikes by U.S.-led coalition forces aimed at defeating the ultra-radical Sunni jihadist group, which has captured large expanses of Iraq and neighboring Syria, beheaded prisoners and massacred people from other religious communities, and declared a medieval-style caliphate.

The United States is to investigate whether militant group Islamic State (IS) used chemical weapons in Iraq, Secretary of State John Kerry has said.

Mr Kerry said he was looking into "extremely serious" allegations that IS attacked Iraqi police officers with chlorine gas last month.

Speaking on a visit to South Korea, Mr Kerry said the claims were unconfirmed.

In September, France, Germany and the UK said it was "probable" IS had chlorine gas.

Mr Kerry said "the use of any chemical weapon is an abhorrent act; it is against international law".

Former Blackwater security guards convicted Wednesday of killing unarmed Iraqi civilians will challenge the verdict, according to defense lawyers. The case, they said, isn't over.

The 2007 shooting in Baghdad’s Nisour Square left 14 people dead and 20 wounded. The jury, which began deliberating in early September, found one of the guards, Nicholas Slatten, guilty of murder. Three other guards, Paul Slough, Evan Liberty and Dustin Heard, were found guilty on voluntary manslaughter and other related charges. Slough, Liberty and Heard were not charged with murder.

U.S. District Senior Judge Royce Lamberth, who presided over the trial, declared a mistrial on three remaining counts related to Heard. All four guards were remanded into custody

ISIS Shells U.S. Embassy in Baghdad - VIDEO

ISIS has reportedly struck the U.S. embassy in Baghdad in what could be the furthest incursion yet into Iraq’s capital.

On Tuesday the Islamist militant group took credit for a mortar attack against the embassy in Baghdad. The group bragged about the attack on social media, claiming that there were likely casualties.

“Four rockets strike Green Zone in #Baghdad; helicopters hovering over the Green Zone; ambulances heading that way after strikes!!” one ISIS militant noted on Twitter.

Others noted that the mortars fell short of the U.S. embassy, leaving no one killed or injured.

Just one day before the alleged attack, retired Lt. Col. Oliver North claimed that sources in Iraq believed ISIS was planning a “major attack” against the embassy in Baghdad.

“They know Baghdad. They’ve lived in Baghdad,” North said of the militants reportedly planning the attack.

“They are at the gates of Baghdad. They’re coming for us,” he added.

Coming soon: the Islamic State Air Force. The Iraqi pilots are motivated to do this by an ideological affinity with the Islamic State. “Former Iraqi pilots train Islamic State fighters to fly MiG jets,” Associated Press, October 17, 2014:

BEIRUT — The Islamic State group is test flying, with the help of former Iraqi air force pilots, several fighter jets captured earlier from air bases belonging to the Syrian military, a Syrian activist group said Friday.

The report by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights in Britain could not be independently confirmed, and U.S. official said they had no reports of Islamic State militants flying jets in support of their forces on the ground.

Insiders Blame Rove for Covering Up Iraq’s Real WMD

There’s one man, some Republicans say, who kept the public from learning about the chemical shells littered around Iraq. He was Bush’s most important political adviser.

Starting in 2004, some members of the George W. Bush administration and Republican lawmakers began to find evidence of discarded chemical weapons in Iraq. But when the information was brought up with the White House, senior adviser Karl Rove told them to “let these sleeping dogs lie.”

The issue of Iraq’s WMD remnants was suddenly thrust back into the fore this week, with ablockbuster New York Times report accusing the Bush administration of covering up American troops’ chemically induced wounds.

To people familiar with the issue, both inside that administration and outside, the blame for the coverup falls on one particular set of shoulders: Rove’s.

From the perspective of Rick Santorum, a Republican senator from Pennsylvania who lost his seat in 2006, some of the weapons of mass destruction President Bush promised would be in Iraq before the 2003 invasion of the country began turning up as early as 2004.

ISIS training pilots to fly in three jets: Syria monitor

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Iraqi pilots who have joined Islamic State in Syria are training members of the group to fly in three captured fighter jets, a group monitoring the war said on Friday, saying it was the first time that the militant group had taken to the air.

The group, which has seized land in Syria and Iraq, has been flying the planes over the captured al-Jarrah military airport east of Aleppo, said Rami Abdulrahman, who runs the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Reuters was not immediately able to verify the report and U.S. Central Command said it was not aware of Islamic State flying jets in Syria.

The Times hastens to assure us that these chemical weapons do not constitute a vindication of the Bush Administration’s claims regarding Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction, and that is probably true: if these weapons really did validate the Bush claims, then it would have been suicidal for the Bush Administration to have kept them a secret. On the other hand, policymakers in Washington seem bent on doing so many stupid things these days, you never know.

Proof Obama Aiding ISIS Terrorists

ISIS‬ has released a new video titled “Blood of Jihad,” which is set in their training camps in ‪Nineveh‬. In it, The Islamic State is shown not only using American tents, but also being supervised by American intelligence officers.

Obama continues to aid and abet the jihadists in the threat of ISIS: he CREATED the threat by leaving Iraq precipitously and giving an opportunity to this group.

He has denied it has anything to do with Islam, despite its name, and that the beheadings have anything to do with the US, despite the Islamic State’s explicit threats to the US. This shows that he is encased in denial and willful ignorance — not a recipe for success or a sign that he is prepared to deal with the threat.

His airstrikes were purely cosmetic and did nothing to stop ISIS.

He has armed the Syrian rebels — many of these arms fell into the hands of ISIS, and the Syrian rebels he armed have the same jihad goal that ISIS does. But in Iraq, these people he has supported and armed become the enemy. This is ridiculous and incoherent.

ISIS uses Chemical Weapons that were not there in Iraq

Islamic State jihadists may have used chemical weapons to kill Kurdish fighters defending the Syria-Turkey border town of Kobane, a number of disturbing and graphic photos obtained by the Middle East Review of International Affairs (MERIA) suggest.

The pictures show Kurdish fighters who appear to have been killed this July in Kobane by the Islamic State (IS, also known as ISIS and ISIL) with some sort of chemical agent, possibly mustard gas. Warning: Graphic content below:

Kurdish forces are still fighting to defend Kobane, about a third of which is now controlled by IS militants.

“According to expert Israeli sources who have seen the pictures, they appear to indicate the use of some form of chemical agent, probably mustard (blister agent), but it is not possible to conclusively confirm this without further investigation,” MERIA, which monitors the Middle East, reported on October 12.

Shia militias in Iraq have kidnapped and killed scores of Sunni civilians in recent months, a report by campaign group Amnesty International has said.

The killings were in apparent revenge for attacks by Islamic State (IS).

Amnesty said the militias had been supported and armed by the Iraqi government and operated with impunity.
