Turkey denies allowing US to use bases for anti-IS strikes - Obama Lies?

Turkey on Monday denied statements by US officials that it had allowed the United States access to its air bases for operations against Islamic State (IS) militants in Syria.

"There is no new agreement with the United States about Incirlik," a government official told AFP, referring to an air base in southern Turkey that the US wants to to use to launch air strikes. "Negotiations are continuing" based on conditions Turkey had previously laid out, the official added.

Follow Ynetnews on Facebook and Twitter  US-led coalition warplanes had struck at Islamic State targets overnight to halt the insurgents' advance and Saturday's barrages were less intense than the previous day. "Clashes continue now, they are shelling on all three fronts. They tried to invade Kobani last night but they were repelled," senior Kurdish official Asya Abdullah told Reuters from the town on Saturday. Arab Twitter users have expressed dismay at US-led strikes against the jihadist group Islamic State in Syria. Newly created hashtags, #Syria_under_attack and #Syria, have drawn thousands of tweets in recent days.

While many users are united in their hatred of Islamic State, the vast majority of comments highlight the plight of Syrian civilians.

Some criticise the Syrian government for allowing foreign intervention, others question the involvement of Arab states in the military action, but most are united in their concern for the Syrian people.

The airstrikes are meant to save Obama’s poll ratings, and the Democrats’ prospects in November. They are not meant to do any serious damage to the Islamic State, and they are not doing any.
