“The pants were too low, he couldn’t run with them,” said the father, who has lived at the house 10 years. “He was walking fast, he was pushing the gun down into his pants.”
UPDATE, 10:34 PM: The suspect served a jail sentence for attempted murder,according to the New York Daily News — and was released after seven years, only to shoot a cop seven years later.
Blackwell served seven years in prison on attempted murder charges. He was released from the Clinton Correctional Facility in upstate Dannemora in June 2008.Blackwell was wanted for committing an unknown crime in November 2014. No other details were immediately available.
UPDATE, 10:29 PM: Time Warner Cable NY1 reports that the suspect opened fire when police approached him on suspicion of possessing a gun:
A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting of an NYPD officer in Queens Saturday afternoon.Police say the shooting happened near the intersection of 104 Road and 212 Street in the Queens Village neighborhood around 6:15 p.m. Saturday.Investigators say plainclothes anticrime officers noticed a man with a bend in his waistband, indicating that he may possibly have a handgun on him. When they approached him, police say the suspect opened fire and at least two bullets hit an unmarked vehicle.One of the officers suffered injuries to his right cheek and back of the head. He was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in critical but stable condition.

#BREAKING #POLICE UNION WANTS KILLING #COPS TREATED AS #HATE CRIME
With over 300,000 members, the National Fraternal Order of Police wants crimes against police officers to fall under the Congressional hate crimes statute. The move comes in the wake of the brutal murders of two New York City police officers, Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu.
The group sent a letter to the White House and Congress asking for the change.

The group has long lobbied for harsher punishment for those who harm law enforcement officers.

NYPD and other law enforcement officers, both active and retired, who attended NYPD Detective’s Wenjian Liu’s funeral on Sunday in Brooklyn turned their backs when New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio delivered his remarks.
Before the weekend, Police Commissioner Bill Bratton sent a memo to NYPD personnel asking them to not turn their backs at Liu’s funeral like they did during Detective Rafael Ramos’s funeral service two weeks ago.
“I issue no mandates and I make no threats of discipline,” Bratton wrote in a memo. “But I remind you that when you don the uniform of this department, you are bound by the tradition, honor, and decency that go with it.”

#TCOT Family, officers attend funeral of murdered #NYPD Officer Wenjian Liu
Under gray skies and a light rain, New York City offered a final salute to Wenjian Liu, the NYPD officer who was murdered with fellow Officer Rafael Ramos as they sat in their squad car on a Brooklyn street.
Liu, 32, was on the force seven years when he was murdered on December 20, just two months after he was married.
Liu’s wife, parents and other family members were joined by thousands of NYPD officers at Aievoli Funeral Home in Dyker Heights for the funeral service.
Msgr. Robert J. Romano, an NYPD chaplain, opened the service with a Buddhist saying: "When you are born, you cry, and the world rejoices. When you die, you rejoice, and the world cries.

#TCOT #Chicago Blue Ribbons Showing Up on Street Poles In Support of #Police
MOUNT GREENWOOD — Patricia Gilboy-Mueller of Mount Greenwood simply wanted to show support for the Chicago Police Department when she placed blue ribbons on the street poles and trees on her block.
A couple days later she, her daughter and a neighbor lined the commercial district on 111th Street with the blue ribbons. Car horns honked and people waved on Tuesday as their effort seemed to touch a nerve in the community populated by a significant number of police, firefighters, teachers and other city workers.
The Blue Ribbon Walk was born from this modest display of support. The march in appreciation for police officers in Chicago and nationwide steps off at 1 p.m. on Saturday from the northwest corner of 111th Street and Kedzie Avenue.
The walk concludes at the Mount Greenwood Community Church at 3509 W. 111th St. Pastor Bill Crowder will give a blessing to all officers. Hot chocolate and cookies will also be available.
"I respect what they [police] do," Gilboy-Mueller said.

The Oakland Police Officers Association has joined police unions in San Francisco and San Jose in condemning recent violence in anti-police protests across the Bay Area and the nation, singling out “politicians and media pundits” for their “vilification of front-line public servants.”
The joint statement, which was published earlier this week, is an open letter to Bay Area residents and expresses the anguish and outrage of police officers who are “shaken to the core” by apparent revenge killings of police.
While the recent protests against perceived racism in the justice system are “a legitimate expression of our First Amendment traditions,” there has been little acknowledgment that rightful protest “has devolved into vilification and violence against this nation’s front-line public safety servants.” The unions say that Bay Area officers have witnessed local protests “degenerate into violence, destruction and mob rule,” where legitimate and peaceful messages are “hijacked by shameful cowards.”

Six Urban GORILLAS Arrested For Threats Against #NYPD Officer
Tyrone Melville, 41, and Jose Maldonado, 26, were both arrested on Wednesday after threatening the New York Police Department.
Six people have been arrested following the execution-style murders of two NYPD officers Dec. 20 by Ismaaiyl Brinsley, a black man allegedly seeking revenge for the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner. Brown was killed by police officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Mo., sparking massive protests across the country; and Garner was killed in Staten Island after being put in a chokehold by an NYPD officer. Melville allegedly called Brooklyn’s 84th Precinct — where murdered officers Rafael Ramos, 40, and Wenjian Liu, 32, worked — and requested to speak to Ramos, asking if the bullets had been removed from his head so “he could kill more cops,” Reuters reports.

Writing in a U.S. communist newspaper, an “economic justice” organization apparently is justifying the cold-blooded murder of two New York City police officers over the weekend.
In a statement cross-posted at Worker’s World, the publication of the Workers World Party, the New York City Peoples Power Assembly Movement posted a statement complaining the alleged revenge-assassination of two officers Saturday in Brooklyn will be used by the U.S. government and police “to justify ratcheting up repression against the masses.”
The group went on to seemingly justify the actions of reported cop-killer Ismaaiyl Abdullah Brinsley, who first posted on social media his intention to avenge the deaths of Eric Garner and Michael Brown, both of whom were killed by police officers.
The group stated: “That said, we also know that anger over police repression and murder is so deep that it should come as no surprise to anyone that somebody would, sooner or later, act on that burning rage. Especially when the so-called justice system demonstrates time after time after time that police can, and do, murder with impunity

#NYPD Cop Shooting Witnesses Reportedly Celebrated, Laughed At Death Of Slain Officers
‘Salute The Shooter’ Ismaaiyl Brinsley
On Saturday, December 20, the fatal shooting of two New York Police Department officers caused quite a controversy among law enforcement, government officials, and pro-police groups. Of course, many Americans were flabbergasted by Ismaaiyl Brinsley’s execution-style shooting of the officers. But, unfortunately, there were actually people who found his actions commendable.
According to the Daily Beast, several eyewitnesses claimed there were actually people on the scene who celebrated, laughed, and mocked the death of the two fallen cops. One witness, identified as Carlos, reportedly shared details about the celebratory actions of some who witnessed the killing.
“A lot of people were clapping and laughing. Some were saying, ‘They deserved it,’ and another was shouting at the cops, ‘Serves them right because you mistreat people!'”

Famous actor and Academy Award nominee James Woods took to Twitter Sunday morning to blast Al Sharpton, Bill de Blasio and President Barack Obama for being “responsible” for the murder of two New York City police officers Saturday.
“This disgusting pig is DIRECTLY responsible for the murder of two good policemen. No discussion,” James Woods retweeted from his account early this morning. Above the tweet was a picture of Al Sharpton at a protest against police. It appears that Woods took down the post later Sunday, but continued tweeting the hashtag #pigSharpton in several posts.
