THE LOOP — Chicago is in for what should be the biggest storm so far this season beginning Saturday evening — and maybe the biggest in four years.
And it looks like it's going to be a direct hit.
"There's nothing to suggest it's not happening," National Weather Service meteorologist Ricky Castro said Saturday morning. "It's not going to miss us like the heaviest snows missed New York City the other day. It's not going to miss us."
By the end of the weekend, some parts of the lakefront could see as much as 12 inches of snow. The rest of the Chicago area should brace for between 5 to 10 inches of snow — and maybe even more if the conditions lead to snow before rain Saturday evening.

Deep freeze settles in Chicago, record low at O'Hare

Dangerous cold descended on Chicago and the suburbs overnight. Icy conditions led to several spinouts and crashes on area roadways and problems with CTA and Metra trains. Several schools, including CPS, canceled classes.

Chicago hit a record low for January 6 with a -16 degrees at O'Hare Airport. And it could get even colder, according to Eyewitness News meteorologist Tracy Butler. The entire Chicago area is under a wind chill warning. Wind chills during that period are forecast to dip between -20 and -45 degrees.
