WAYNE ALLYN ROOT: OBAMA’S MURDERING THE MIDDLE CLASS

Wayne Allyn Root, author, businessman, and politician, says in his new book, The Murder of the Middle Class: How to Save Yourself and Your Family from the Criminal Conspiracy of the Century (Regnery, July 2014) that the middle class is dying, and it’s “not from natural causes.” Root spoke to Human Events about President Obama’s plan to destroy our country, his process, and what to do about it.

You’ve been outspoken in calling for President Obama’s impeachment. Pat Buchanan recently wrote an article in which he says impeachment is “a bridge too far,” and that we have no grounds. What’s your response?

On Wednesday, Ryan Grim, Washington bureau chief for The Huffington Post, issued a press release breathlessly pumping an article that, he promised and swore, exposes plans hatched by Charles and David Koch to “foist” their “worldview on public school students.”

How do the Koch brothers propose to accomplish such foisting? In the HuffPo piece, which at about 4,800 words (not including a quiz) runs nearly 20 percent longer (and more boring) than Edgar Allen Poe’s famous short story “The Black Cat,” two daring reporters explain that the plan is to teach “predominantly poor students” at Highland Park High School in Topeka, Kan. — wait for it — “basic economic principles.”

On top of this nefarious instruction, the students then have the opportunity to receive filthy Koch lucre “including startup capital and scholarships.”

Grim eagerly points to a sample question from a quiz that is part of the Koch brothers-created material. “True or false,” the dastardly quiz question says: “Teaching people how to ‘fish’ and catch their own food is symbolic of creating opportunities for entrepreneurs so that they can create jobs for others too.”

How the Affordable Care Act is Poised to Ruin America’s Economy

If you’re fortunate enough to have health insurance provided by your employer, you may have regarded all the news and strife over ObamaCare with little more than theoretical interest. CHICAGO NEXT BIG CITY BANKRUPTCY?

Submitted by Tyler Durden on 07/28/2013While everyone's attention is focused on the Detroit bankruptcy, and just what assets the city will sell in lieu of raising a DIP loan, perhaps it is time to refocus attention to the city 300 miles west: Chicago. According to the Chicago Sun Times, Obama's former right hand man, Rahm Emanuel, closed the books on 2012 with $33.4 million in unallocated cash on hand — down from $167 million the year before — while adding to the mountain of debt piled on Chicago taxpayers, citing year-end audits. In addition to a liquidity problem, Chicago may also be quite insolvent as the city's total long-term debt soared to nearly $29 billion. That’s $10,780 for every one of the city’s nearly 2.69 million residents. More than a decade ago, the debt load was $9.6 billion or $3,338 per resident. Of course, in a world in which debt is "wealth", this is great news... at least until debt becomes "bankruptcy."

Ironically last year, now-retiring City Comptroller Amer Ahmad argued that the city’s debt load was not “troubling” because, "We still have a very strong bond rating. Our fiscal position is getting better every year and we are aggressively managing our liabilities and obligations" (very much along the lines of what the ECB's Mario Draghi tells the world when he gives the periodic monthly update of European stock markets during the central bank's press conference). It is ironic because last week, Moody’s downgraded Chicago from Aa3 to A3 in an unprecedented three notch cut in the city’s bond rating, citing Chicago’s "very large and growing" pension liabilities, "significant" debt service payments, “unrelenting public safety demands” and historic reluctance to raise local taxes that has continued under Emanuel.

Increasing Revenue by Lowering Taxes

Lawyers and economists know that there are two primary purposes of taxes: one is to raise funds for the government; the other is to discourage activity. If we want less of something, we tax it. For example, if the federal government raised the tax rate on cigarettes or alcohol, it might raise more revenue, but the primary purpose of the tax is to discourage the activity taxed, to change behavior.

If the purpose of the tax is to raise funds for the government, the tax rate must not be too high, or the government will collect less than if it had set the rate lower. Lower tax rates can produce more revenue than higher tax rates for the same reason that Wal-Mart, with its lower prices, makes more money than Tiffany & Co. For example, when the United States has lowered the capital gains rate, it has collected more in capital gains taxes. When it raises the rate, it collects less in taxes.

Revised numbers show US economy worst since '11

The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits fell more than expected last week, pointing to a strengthening labor market.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits declined 27,000 to a seasonally adjusted 300,000 for the week ended May 24, the Labor Department said on Thursday.

The prior week's claims were revised to show 1,000 more applications received than previously reported.

Economists polled by Reuters had forecast first-time applications for jobless aid falling to 318,000 last week.

#Chicago sees Big slips in Illinois Payrolls

Illinois can grow its payrolls by embracing the reforms that are leading to job creation in pro-growth states. Sunsetting the temporary 2011 tax hike would be a good start. Illinois also needs job-saving reforms to its workers’ compensation system, ranked fourth-worst nationally, and its unemployment insurance system, ranked ninth-worst nationally.
