Police departments throughout the U.S. are considering whether to equip their officers with Google Glass.

New York City Police Department Commissioner Bill Bratton confirmed the department is already using the smart glasses during a press conference last week.

"We're in the process of field-testing that technology in a variety of circumstances, seeing where - if useful - where it might be most useful, most beneficial," he said."

Google Glass Gets Prescription Options With Four Titanium Frame Styles And Shades

Google has taken the step that many asked for regarding its Google Glass head-mounted computer – it introduced prescription frames for the device, via an update to the Google Glass website. Google has created four different varieties of frames that should fit the fashion tastes of a number of different shoppers, and a pair will add $225 to the existing $1,500 cost of Glass for Explorer program participants.

Explorers who already have Glass can just pick up a pair of the new glasses themselves, and then simply attach their existing device to them. The frames come in a Split version with a thinner lower frame and a sudden change in thickness, a Thin version that tapers at the bottom, a Bold model that are essentially squared thick-frame glasses, and the Curve which is similar but rounded.

Among the biggest technology releases of 2013 is Google's wearable computing platform, which it calls Glass. The Glass device, the first iteration of which was made available solely to developers, is now being offered in slightly updated form to a limited number of other purchasers (whom Google terms "Explorers") including those who added themselves to Google's list and certain customers of Google's services. Glass currently retails for $1,500, and while most commentators suggest that Glass will (and must) be priced significantly lower in order to succeed in a broader market, Google has not yet announced any final pricing or timeframes for a general release.

Woman cleared in San Diego Google Glass driving case

A case involving a woman cited for wearing Google Glass while driving was thrown out Thursday in a San Diego traffic court. Three states have introduced bills, which would ban driving with Google Glass. The future of wearable technology is being shaped now as it begins to becomes more mainstream. 

SAN DIEGO (AP) — A San Diego traffic court threw out a citation Thursday against a woman believed to be the first motorist in the country ticketed for driving while wearing a Google Glass computer-in-eyeglass device.

Commissioner John Blair ruled that Cecilia Abadie was not guilty because she had been cited under a code that requires proof beyond a reasonable doubt that the device was in operation, which the officer did not provide.
