AUSTIN -- Twitter, Facebook, Vine, Instagram: all platforms that enable people to reach out to each other and now enable presidential candidates to reach their voters.

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared victory after a tight national election appeared to give him the upper hand in forming the country's next coalition government.

In a statement released on Twitter, Netanyahu says that "against all odds" his Likud party and the nationalist camp secured a "great victory."

Initial exit polls showed Netanyahu's Likud Party deadlocked with the center-left Zionist Union.

But the results indicated that Netanyahu will have an easier time cobbling together a majority coalition with hard-line and religious allies.

Polling stations opened at 7 a.m. on Tuesday as Israeli citizens headed for the ballots to vote for Israel’s 20th Knesset. Polls from the end of last week had left options open for a tight race. The TV exit polls were published at 10 p.m., as polling stations closed, after which official results began to roll in. The official final results won’t be publicized until Thursday.

A new poll on the mayoral race just released by the Chicago Tribune shows Rahm Emanuel taking a commanding lead.

The poll shows Mayor Emanuel has 51-percent of voter support while opponent Chuy Garcia has 37-percent.

Eleven percent of voters are still undecided with a little more than three-weeks to go until Election Day.

CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel doesn't face any big-name challengers in his push for a second term, but the former White House chief of staff isn't taking any chances.

He's pulled in more than nine times more money than any of his challengers through fundraising and a PAC. He's dominated the airwaves with commercials, including a radio spot this week featuring an endorsement from his old boss, President Barack Obama. And he's agreed to attend no less than six forums and debates — far more than the single debate he did during his 2011 bid to lead the nation's third-largest city.

Never known to be bashful, Emanuel says he takes every challenge seriously. But his acknowledgement that he's not in position to coast to victory is rooted in political reality.

Windy City Politics owe a great deal to Organized Crime - known as the OUTFIT (the MOB is fron NY).

During the early years of the 20th Century, First Ward Bosses like Hinky Dink Kenna and Bathouse John used their ties with organized crime to control large sections of the Levee - an area of the near South Side where prostitution and gambling dens were rampant.

The tradition continued well into the 1920's and reached its zenith with the notorious (But short lived) reign of Al Capone and his South Side gang.  Chicago Mayor Big Bill Thompson was instrumental in this great success story.

Reform came and then went into the following decades but Organized Crime was always well represented in Chicago City Hall with the 1st Ward Alderman understood by all to represent the OUTFIT and their interests. John D'Arco served in this post for many years and ensured that ORGANIZED CRIME continued its reign.

The OUTFIT gave way to the BLACK and LATINO MEGA-GANGS in the city but retained its interest in the South Suburbs, where they remain today. Now the BLACK MEGA GANGS control most of the DRUG and VICE TRADE in the city and fight over it daily - they are just killing each other, so no one cares.

Chicago POLITICIANS have always counted on the MONEY and ORGANIZATION that the OUTFIT can provide - and their STRONG INFLUENCE in CHICAGO LABOR UNIONS ensures a good voter turnout as well.

If you don't show up at the polls in some Wards, you can expect a VISIT from local thugs later on so it's a GOOD IDEA to play along.

Rahm is fond of sending his FOES a DEAD FISH - an old OUTFIT warning that is understood by ALL - he did this again just last year.  They don't call him the GODFATHER for nothing!

All things considered, the Gagbage is picked up on time, (MOST OF) the neighborhoods are safe, (Some of) the schools are good, and in (Most of) the North Side areas (like Ravenswood where RAHM lives) the area is VERY SAFE and quite nice.

ILLINOIS GENERAL ELECTION: FIRST POLL - RAUNER HAS SLIGHT EDGE, UNIONS HAVE STRONG SUPPORT

The election is more than six months away and we’ve already got the first poll of the season: A Rasmussen Reports survey that gives Bruce Rauner a narrow lead over Gov. Pat Quinn, indicates low approval ratings for Quinn and relatively strong support for public employee unions.

Only 39 percent approve of the job Quinn is doing as governor, while 56 percent disapprove. “This includes 8 percent who strongly approve of the governor’s job performance and 39 percent who strongly disapprove,” Rasmussen reports.

Conducted April 9-10 among 750 likely voters, the Rasmussen poll gives Rauner a 43-40 percent advantage over Quinn. (The same survey showed U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin with a 51-37 percent lead over his Republican challenger, State Sen. Jim Oberweis.)

Illinois among big losers as people and their incomes move to other states

Every Monday, the Tax Foundation -- a non-partisan, non-profit research organization that has monitored tax policy at the federal, state and local levels since 1937 – puts out a Monday Map examining some aspect of tax or financial policy.

This week’s topic is the movement of personal income between states from 2000 to 2010. Illinois was on the wrong end of this trend, ranking third for most income flowing across its borders and into other states.

The Tax Foundation’s Richard Borean explains:

This week, our Monday Map draws data from our interactive State Migration Calculator, and illustrates the interstate movement of income over the past decade (from 2000 to 2010). When a person moves to a new state, their income is added to the total of all other incomes in that state. This positively affects the total taxable income in his or her new state, and negatively affects the income in the state he or she left.

Florida benefited the most—interstate migrants brought a net $67.3 billion dollars in annual income into the state between 2000 and 2010. The next two highest gainers were Arizona ($17.7 billion) and Texas ($17.6 billion). New York, on the other hand, lost the most income ($-45.6 billion), and is followed by California ($-29.4 billion) and Illinois ($-20.4 billion).
