Chicago's Cardinal Francis George has died after a long battle with cancer, the Chicago Tribune and other media reported on Friday. He was 78.
George was the first Chicago native to serve as the local archbishop for 17 years, according to the Chicago Tribune. This HOLY MAN Of GOD served #CHICAGO #CATHOLICS Well for nearly two decades.

He bravely battled CANCER For years as ALL Catholics Prayed for Him - last year, he wisely retired to allow a healthy YOUNGER MAN, Archbishop CUPICH to replace him.

A few months ago, doctors told him that NOTHING MORE Could be done to battle the CANCER that would take him to HEAVEN and his HOLY REWARD at the RIGHT HAND OF GOD!

May he REST IN THE PEACE AND LOVE OF OUR JESUS CHRIST - OUR LORD.

#POPE FRANCIS: ‘THE DEVIL HAS MADE #MEXICO PAY’ @Breitbart

In an exclusive interview Wednesday, the second anniversary of his election to the papacy, Pope Francis spoke on a wide range of topics, many of which revolved around Mexico. He said that “the devil doesn’t forgive Mexico because there [the Virgin Mary] revealed her Son,” referring to the appearances of the Virgin of Guadalupe.

“This isn’t the first tough moment that Mexico has gone through,” he said. “It’s connected with holiness, right? Mexico has gone through times of religious persecution, when it gave birth to martyrs. I think the devil punishes Mexico fiercely.”
The Pope granted the one-on-one interview to veteran reporter Valentina Alazraki, the Vatican correspondent for the Mexican channel Televisa. The first half of the interview was released today, to be followed by the second half next week.
“Mexico,” said Francis, “is privileged in martyrdom, for recognizing and defending its Mother. And this you know very well. You will find Catholics, non-Catholics, and atheists in Mexico, but they are all ‘guadalupanos.’ That is, everyone feels like her child. Children of the one who brought the Savior, who destroyed the devil.”
Francis acknowledged that the current social situation in Mexico is dramatic, but said that blaming it all on one cause, like the government, is “childish.”
“I believe the devil has made Mexico pay, right? And so all these things happen. You see that all through history it has been a center of serious conflicts. Who is to blame? The government? That is the easy solution, the easy answer. Governments are always to blame. Yes, the government. But everyone is somehow at fault, at least for not taking care of the suffering.”

More people giving up #socialmedia for Lent !!!

TROY >> Social Media: it might be the new chocolate when it comes to cravings and, as a result, it has recently become a popular indulgence to give up for Lent.
But, unlike chocolate, social media has become a part of daily routines for many and is even part of some job descriptions. It is used to stay in touch with family, old friends, new acquaintances, and is becoming an integral platform for small businesses to directly reach their current and potential customers.
Tom Nardacci, founder and president of Troy-based Gramercy Communications, is about to go into his third week of Facebook fasting as part of the Christian season of Lent, which lasts 40 days before Easter Sunday. He said he made the decision to give up Facebook since he knew it would be hard. It was his middle school religion teacher Sister Aloise who encouraged him to give up something hard for Lent, Nardacci remembered. And, considering he has been signed up with Facebook since graduate school, he was curious about what life without daily Facebooking looked like.So far, he said: “It’s actually hard. I miss the daily connection to some friends who are also just really busy. I had to log in one time for a work thing. Other than that, Sister Aloise would be proud.”
Considering that the mass popularity of the Internet only happened a couple decades ago and that social media itself has been around for an even shorter period of time, society is still figuring out the overall role that social media will play.

Good Friday

On Good Friday, the entire Church fixes her gaze on the Cross at Calvary. Each member of the Church tries to understand at what cost Christ has won our redemption. In the solemn ceremonies of Good Friday, in the Adoration of the Cross, in the chanting of the 'Reproaches', in the reading of the Passion, and in receiving the pre-consecrated Host, we unite ourselves to our Savior, and we contemplate our own death to sin in the Death of our Lord.

The Church - stripped of its ornaments, the altar bare, and with the door of the empty tabernacle standing open - is as if in mourning. In the fourth century the Apostolic Constitutions described this day as a 'day of mourning, not a day of festive joy,' and this day was called the 'Pasch (passage) of the Crucifixion.'

The liturgical observance of this day of Christ's suffering, crucifixion and death evidently has been in existence from the earliest days of the Church. No Mass is celebrated on this day, but the service of Good Friday is called the Mass of the Presanctified because Communion (in the species of bread) which had already been consecrated on Holy Thursday is given to the people .

Durbin to be denied Holy Communion in Springfield

llinois' pro-abortion U.S. Senator, Dick Durbin, will no longer be allowed to receive Holy Communion at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Springfield. The parish is located in our capitol city, and Senator Durbin has a home there and attends mass there when he's downstate. (Durbin also has a condominium in Chicago and attends mass at Old St. Patrick's when he's in the city, but his hometown and primary residence are downstate).
Monsignor Kevin Vann is the pastor of Blessed Sacrament parish, and made what he said was a difficult decision. In explaining his reasons to deny communion to Senator Durbin, he noted: "I've known [Sen. Durbin] for many years. I know he works hard in many fields. But his pro-choice position puts him really outside of communion or unity with the church's teaching on life. And that's why I would be reticent to give him Holy Communion."
In other words, Senator Durbin is clearly in defiance of Catholic beliefs when he promotes government support for abortion on demand. Monsignor Vann noted that if Durbin attends Mass in Springfield and approached the altar to receive Holy Communion, he would instead give the senator a blessing. This is common practice for people who attend Mass at a Catholic parish and wish to receive communion, but are not in full communion with the Catholic Church (It typically includes non-Catholic spouses and Catholics in second marriages that are not blessed by the church).

Administration to high court: Don't exempt Catholic groups from contraception mandate

The Obama administration on Friday asked the Supreme Court not to exempt Catholic groups from an ObamaCare requirement to offer contraceptive coverage, after the high court gave them a temporary reprieve earlier this week.
The court filing comes in response to a surprise order -- issued shortly before coverage under the law went into effect -- by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. The justice issued a stay late Tuesday preventing the government from enforcing the so-called contraceptive mandate against the Little Sisters of the Poor Home for the Aged.
The administration responded just before the Friday morning deadline.
The group of Catholic nuns argues that the contraceptive coverage requirement violates their religious beliefs.

States Rights Ride Again - in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania Catholic groups win ObamaCare reprieve

Two Pennsylvania Catholic dioceses have won a delay in having to comply with what they argue are controversial mandates in ObamaCare that would go against their religious values.
A federal judge ruled Thursday that forcing two Catholic schools and charities related to the schools to comply with parts of the Affordable Care Act could result in a loss of donations and workers, and fines that would force some of the church programs to shut down.
The ruling by U.S. District Judge Arthur J. Schwab for the Pittsburgh and Erie Catholic dioceses buys the two groups time to appeal their case to higher courts. The dioceses objected to the law's requirement that contraception, including sterilization, be offered in employee health care plans.
