In 1968 the writer was attending a Speicial School operated by Brittanica Academy at 28 E. Jackson, Chi, IL 60603. Most of our students could have been described as 'hippie' types and we were only a block away from the Riot that occurred in 1968 in Chicago's Grant Park. We got daily updates from Old Town so knew all.

A Regular Cry in this 'Paper' and other flyers the Panthers distributed to our high school students was
"KILL THE PIGS!"
Since most the Panthers were former (Or active) gang members and drug dealers with criminal records, this constant appeal for deadly violence was very disturbing. The Black Panther "Women" were all CRACK HOES! Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley (the "Boss") made his concerns known frequently and advised Decent and Law Abiding Citizens of the danger posed by this Criminal Group.
Panther Paper Urging War on the Police and US Government
Since the Panthers were calling for Armed Revolution and had stock-piled large stores of drugs, guns and automatic weapons in their West Side HQ, at Madison and Western Ave. on Chicago's West side, and had close ties with the Vice Lords, the Chicago Police kept a special watch on these drug dealers and thugs.
Friends of mine who lived in the Robert Taylor Homes Housing Project and Cabrini Greene all were predicting a RACE WAR with "Lotsa Dead Pigs!" - the internecine rhetoric had caught fire and was being matched by real action. The Chicago Police were alarmed.

The Panthers became very active in getting out the vote - OR ELSE! West and South Side residents were told who to vote for and told that their presence at the Polls was required for their continued safety. Somce West Side alderman went so far as to PAY PANTHER guards with City Funds - it did not last long! (in Chicago, it's common practice aldermen to utilize street gang members at Election Time to get out the VOTE (OR ELSE!) - US Congressman Louis Guittierez became a Puerto Rican Humboldt Park Powerhouse with the Aid of the LATIN KINGS!)
During the Democratic National Convention of 1968, a friend and I walked over to Grant Park to see the Yippies that were making the news. A van pulled up with the Black Panthers inside - when they opened the back, the truck was filled with automatic rifles, shotguns and even a Bazooka - they were LOOKING FOR WAR!

After the well publicized CPD raid on their Monroe St. Armory, where the Chicago Police Killed two of their Head Gang Leaders in self-Defense, Chicago's were glad to see these dangerous dirt bags gone for good. The ones that were left decided they did not want to meet the same fate so beat a hasty retreat.
