Gun control legislation going into effect in California next week will allow authorities to seize a person’s weapons for 21 days if a judge determines there is potential for violence.
Proposed in the wake of a deadly May 2014 shooting rampage by Elliot Rodger, the bill provides family members with a means of having an emergency “gun violence restraining order” imposed against a loved one if they can convince a judge that this person’s possession of a firearm “poses an immediate and present danger of causing personal injury to himself, herself or another by having in his or her custody or control.”
“The law gives us a vehicle to cause the person to surrender their weapons, to have a time out, if you will,” Los Angeles Police Department Assistant Chief Michael Moore told a local NPR affiliate. “It allows further examination of the person’s mental state.”
Big outside money spent on Virginia elections, and little has changed
Richmond Times-Dispatch
Virginia Republicans look set to hold onto their Senate majority in the Old Dominion, amid aggressive campaigning by Democrat Gov. Terry McAuliffe.
It is a big defeat for McAuliffe, a close ally for Hillary Clinton, and a big defeat for New York billionaire Mike Bloomberg, who donated heavily to Democrats in the hope of winning the Virginia electoral fights on a promise of more gun-control.
Republicans beat back two serious challengers Tuesday, holding onto seats in the suburbs of Richmond and the Hampton Roads area.
In another hotly contested race, Republican Hal Parrish holds a lead over Democrat Jerry McPike. If Parrish holds onto his lead, it would represent a Republican gain, as the two are battling to replace a retiring Democrat.
McAuliffe, with considerable help from Bloomberg, bet his political capital on Democrats winning the upper Chamber. But he seems to have fallen far short.
Republicans currently hold a 2-seat majority in the state Senate. Republicans have an overwhelming majority in the state House.
Bloomberg was hoping to capitalize on the tragic shooting of two Virginia TV reporters by a disgruntled newsman earlier this Summer. He pumped millions into the race for two critical state Senate seats. As a result, both Democrats were able to dramatically outspend their Republican rivals.
Bloomberg and his SuperPAC, Everytown for Gun Safety, hoped to show that Democrats could win on the issue of gun control. Also, Gov. McAuliffe had made enacting new restrictions on gun ownership a centerpiece of his campaigning for Democrats around the state.
McAuliffe also campaigned aggressively for expanding Medicaid through ObamaCare and implementing universal preschool. All three issues have been top priorities for McAuliffe’s tenure as governor. Barred from running for reelection, McAuliffe will now face a united Republican legislature for his final two years in office.
His policy agenda, and Bloomberg’s push for gun control, are dead in Richmond. McAuliffe’s inability to deliver the closely divided Senate for Democrats also raises questions of how effective he can be for Hillary Clinton next year. In many ways, this legislative election turned on issues central to her campaign.
President Barack Obama is a serial-liar of the first order. That is not partisanship talking, that is history and science. And when Obama says, as he did Tuesday in Chicago, I’m not going to “take everyone’s guns away,” that means he’s coming for them.
Did I mention Barack Obama is a liar? Not only is Obama a liar, this “not gunna-gunna” ploy is a tactic the President has effectively used many times before. It’s a two-pronged assault that requires the cooperation of his DC Media allies.
By lying and saying he’s “not gunna,” Obama lulls his opponents into a false sense of security.
By lying and saying he’s “not gunna,” it allows Obama’s DC Media allies to attack as liars and extremists those who say Obama will take their guns.
Let’s look at the science, shall we?
I’m Not Gunna Force People To Buy Health Insurance
Obama’s “not gunna” lies started during the 2008 presidential campaign when he said he was “not gunna” force people to buy health insurance. Here’s video of a 2008 debatebetween Obama and Hillary Clinton where he criticizes, not just the mandate in her health care plan that forces people to purchase health insurance, but the fact that they are fined and therefore “worse off” if they don’t purchase insurance.
We don’t want to put on adults a situation where we are mandating them to purchase insurance and if the subsidies are inadequate the burden is on them and they will be penalized, and this is exactly what Senator Clinton’s plan does … If healthcare is affordable you don’t need a mandate.
Except, from the mandate to the penalty, this is exactly what ObamaCare does.
I’m Not Gunna Take Away Your Health Insurance or Your Doctor
While he was trying to shove ObamaCare into law in 2009 and win re-election in 2012, dozens of times Obama said, I’m “not gunna” take away your health insurance and I’m “not gunna” take away your doctor.
Obama was lying.
Obama knew he was lying.
The DC Media knew he was lying.
And those of us who called out his lie were accused of racism by Obama and the DC Media.
By the time the fallout hit, millions and millions of people lost their insurance, and with it, their doctors.
The lie, and the DC Media’s willing complicity in covering up the lie, was necessary to get the monstrosity passed. Had the president told the truth, or the DC Media exposed what they knew was the truth, ObamaCare never would have passed.
I’m Not Gunna Sign Executive Orders Changing Immigration Law
More than 20 times President Obama reassured Americans he would not override Congress as a means to change or ignore immigration laws. Again and again, Obama told us he would not and could not unilaterally ignore or rewrite these laws.
“I believe in the Second Amendment. I believe in the people’s lawful right to bear arms. I will not take your shotgun away. I will not take your rifle away. I won’t take your handgun away.” — Then-Senator Obama, September 9, 2008.

While running for president, Obama was desperate to wrist-flick away the gun issue knowing it could hurt him in the general election.
In 2008, Obama also voted in favor of an amendment that would prohibit the confiscation of guns, even during a national emergency.
This was all a lie.
Twice this year, although the DC Media ignores this in order to protect him, Obama has said that he backs Australia’s gun laws, the spine of which is outright confiscation. Democrats and the DC Media always lie about Australia’s government-mandated confiscation by couching it as a buyback program — which it most certainly was not. Sure, the Australian government paid people for their guns but they were forced to turn them in. A buyback program is voluntary.
CHICAGO -- President Obama will arrive in Chicago this afternoon to address a conference of police chiefs at McCormick Place.
He's expected to praise law enforcement officers for their sacrifices.
He'll also make the case for criminal justice reform and common sense gun control as a way to keep officers safe. Those reforms include nationwide background checks for gun purchases.
Several police chiefs spoke with the media Monday, saying they are not anti-gun, but they are looking for changes to reduce the growing problem of gun violence across the country.
The president will address 14,000 law enforcement delegates from around the world just after 2 p.m.
Some analysts say he could bypass congress and announce an executive order that would put universal background checks into place.
After a week of polls showing the American people reacted to the Umpqua Community College (UCC) shooting with stronger support for gun rights than gun control, a Washington Post-ABC News poll released October 26 shows that an overwhelming majority of Americans also believe Congressional focus ought to be on fixing our mental health system instead of talking about more gun laws.
According to The Washington Post, the poll shows that 63 percent of Americans believe mass public attacks like the one at UCC “reflect problems identifying and treating people with mental health problems rather than inadequate gun control laws.” Only 23 percent of Americans believe such attacks show the need for more gun control.
And if we break down poll responses by political parties we see the continuation of a similar pattern–namely, that Second Amendment support is coming from Republicans and independents while the driving force behind gun control is the Democrat Party. For example, in the Washington Post-ABC News Poll 82 percent of Republicans and 65 percent of Independents says mass public attacks show the focus should be on mental health rather than the passage of more gun control laws. Only 46 percent of Democrats agree with the Republicans and independents on this.
Moreover, when asked about gun rights versus gun control, the Washington Post-ABC Poll showed that seven out of 10 Republicans say the focus should be on gun rights while seven out of 10 Democrats want more gun control.
Breitbart News previously reported that the responses to a recent Gallup poll show a similar breakdown among political parties regarding concealed carry in America. Gallup showed that 56 percent of Americans believe more concealed carry would make America safer while 41 percent of Americans believe more concealed carry would make America less safe. The pro-concealed carry position was driven by Republicans and independents; eighty-two percent of Republicans believe more concealed carry would make the U.S. safer and 56 percent of independents agree. The anti-concealed position was driven by Democrats, 67 percent of whom believe more concealed carry permit holders will make America less safe.

Gallup’s latest poll finds the much-demonized National Rifle Association with far higher approval ratings than two of its most prominent assailants: President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. The NRA had a 58 percent approval rating, far higher than Obama’s 45 percent or Clinton’s 41 percent.
Furthermore, Gallup reports the highest “very favorable” rating for the NRA, 26 percent, since it began testing the organization’s popularity in 1989.
The NRA’s approval rating has been fairly steady in recent years, only dipping to 54 percent after the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in 2012, while peaking at 60 percent in 2005. Gallup recalls its all-time low approval rating was 42 percent in June 1995, “at a time when the NRA sent out a fundraising letter calling federal law enforcement agents ‘jack-booted government thugs’ in the wake of the Waco siege in 1993,” with the Oklahoma City bombing following soon after.
Unsurprisingly, support for the NRA is divided sharply along partisan and ideological lines, with Republicans and conservatives viewing it far more favorably than Democrats and liberals. Conservatives give the NRA a soaring 77 percent approval rating, with 41 percent “very favorable,” while liberals express only 30 percent approval, with 45 percent rating it “very unfavorable.”
It is equally unsurprising to find the National Rifle Association much more popular with gun owners (78-20 approval) than non-gun owners (49-42).
On October 13, Chapman University released its Survey of American Fears and revealed that more than twice as many Americans fear gun control than fear “mass shootings.”
While those on the left may scratch their heads to wonder how this could be, the facts are that gun control leads to gun-free zones, which, in turn, appear to be very popular with mass shooters.
According to Chapman University, 16.4 percent of Americans hold “mass shootings” as one of their greatest fears, while more than twice that many Americans, 36.5 percent, are “afraid” or “very afraid” of gun control.
In fact, the poll shows that Americans fear many issues tied to government overreach far more than they fear mass shootings. For example, whereas 16.4 percent of Americans fear mass shootings, 58 percent fear government corruption, and 35.7 percent fear Obamacare. Moreover, 29.7 percent of Americans fear illegal immigration more than they fear mass shootings.
So while the Democrat presidential hopefuls are vying for dominance by assailing gun owners and offering free health care to illegal immigrants, more than twice as many Americans fear gun control than fear mass shootings, and nearly twice as many fear the influx of illegals more than mass shootings.
