1. Phones that flex to your every whim. Where do you store your phone when you work out? If you ever wished that it would fit nicely around your wrist, your dream smartphone may be less than two years away from the market. That’s what Fast Company reported this week in a feature about “Paddle, the Incredible Shapeshifting Smartphone of the Future.” It’s a concept that Belgium-based Hasselt University researchers are perfecting—a smartphone that morphs into all the shapes you need—thus making it the only device, they say, you will ever need to carry around. The prototype uses engineering principles gleaned from the 3-D Rubik’s Magic Puzzle. Visualize a folding plate that contains eight square-shaped tiles and then you can begin to understand how various combinations can support their idea. The researchers claim that their prototype already supports 15 different shapes that include an armband and a book.
