DON’T STIGMATIZE MURDERERS!

ANN COULTER LETTER

Mass murder at a sunny college campus in a beach town would normally be considered “newsy,” but Elliot Rodger’s massacre at the University of California-Santa Barbara last Friday is getting surprisingly little press.
This is not a good case for liberals: The killer was an immigrant, a person of color, and the majority of his casualties resulted from attacks with a car or knife. It makes as much sense to rant about the NRA as to blame the Auto Club of America or the National Knife Collectors Association.

California killer's family struggled with money, court documents show

Los Angeles (CNN) -- Despite his designer clothes and BMW, Isla Vista shooting suspect Elliot Rodger was not from a wealthy family.
Grieving father reacts to rampage
Rodger's father, a photographer and film director, was deeply in debt, and his mother made just $40,000 a year as a research assistant for a film company, according to documents from his parents' divorce.
Santa Barbara County, California, investigators say Rodger, 22,stabbed to death three people in his apartment, shot two women to death outside a sorority house and killed another man inside a deli with gunfire before apparently killing himself near the campus of the University of California at Santa Barbara on Friday.

Elliot Rodger may have used machetes and hammer to murder house-mates in 'killing chamber'

The crazed killer who murdered six in a quiet California university town is believed to have used a machete and hammer to slaughter his first three victims in an apartment he planned to turn into a “personal torture and killing chamber”.
One of the victims Cheng Yuan Hong, 20, an engineering student from Taiwan, was a room-mate Elliot Rodger had accused of stealing three candles worth $22 from him in January.
At the time Rodger, 22, attempted a citizen’s arrest over the alleged theft and called police but Mr Hong was released. Friends of Mr Hong said he was planning to move out at the end of the semester because Rodger was “strange”.

Elliot Rodger: A Killer’s Journey From Hollywood to Hell

Written by

“I wanted to inflict pain on all young couples.... I was capable of killing them, and I wanted to. I wanted to kill them slowly, to strip the skins off their flesh. They deserve it. The males deserve it for taking the females away from me, and the females deserve it for choosing those males instead of me” — My Twisted World, The Story of Elliot Rodger, page 87.
On the surface, Elliot Rodger had it all. The son of a Hollywood director, he lived a life of opulence and opportunity, able to attend private schools, receiving VIP passes for special events and film premieres, and visiting six different countries by the age of four. He regularly bought expensive designer clothes, wore $300 Armani sunglasses, and could fly first class. And when he killed six people this past Friday in a rampage centered around the University of California, Santa Barbara campus, he was driving a BMW 328I coupe, a car most Americans can scarcely afford.
But it was Rodger’s unfulfilled desires for women’s attention and sex that truly drove him — to despair, jealousy and, ultimately, to murder and suicide.

'The Elliot Rodger Revolution':

Sinister diagram by British-born California gunman, 22, reveals his deranged plan to kill women for not sleeping with him.

Elliot Rodger, 22, stabbed to death three men inside his home in California
  • Gunman wrote 140-page manifesto outlining how he wanted to kill people
  • Rodger had Asperger's syndrome and was in the care of several therapists
  • He had three semi-automatic handguns and 400 rounds of ammunition
  • Posted video in which he claimed women have rejected his advances
  • Lamenting that he was a 22-year-old virgin, Rodger promised 'retribution'
  • Planned to enter 'hottest sorority on UCSB' and 'slaughter' the girls inside

This is the sinister diagram allegedly posted online by gunman Elliot Rodger before he killed six people in California, warning of his 'revolution' that was to come.

The graphic illustrates Rodger's anger that he was still a virgin aged 22, echoing his comments in a video that he would 'punish' women who were not attracted to him.

It was also revealed today that Rodger's deadly crime spree began with three stabbing deaths inside the killer's apartment and concluded with the son of a Hollywood bigwig shooting himself in the head.

Rodger started out by stabbing to death three men on Friday night. The rampage covered a wide area of the University of California, Santa Barbara campus with ten separate crime scenes.

He was driving a black BMW - and acted alone when six people were killed and 13 were hurt.

Illinois Petition For Involuntary Admission To A Mental Health Center

The State of Illinois has a special procedure in place to protect socitey from the dangerously mentally ill.  If California has such a statute and had enforced it, perhaps they could avoid the horrors we saw in the Santa Barbara shootings.

Illinois

Illinois, like every state, has its own civil commitment laws that establish criteria for determining when court-ordered treatment is appropriate for individuals with severe mental illness who are too ill to seek care voluntarily. The state authorizes both inpatient (hospital) and outpatient (community) treatment, which is known in Illinois as "involuntary admission on an outpatient basis."
Illinois

For inpatient treatment, a person must meet the following criteria:

  • be a reasonable expectation of danger to self/others
  • be unable to provide for basic physical needs so as to guard against serious harm without the assistance of others, OR
  • refuse or not adhere to treatment, unable to understand need for treatment, and, if not treated, reasonably expected to suffer mental or emotional deterioration and become dangerous and/or unable to provide for basic physical needs
For outpatient treatment, a person must meet the following criteria:
  •  in the absence of outpatient treatment, meet criteria for inpatient commitment; and outpatient treatment can only be reasonably ensured through court order; or
  •  mental illness left untreated reasonably expected to result in qualification for inpatient commitment, and has more than once caused the person to refused needed outpatient care
State standards for emergency hospitalization for evaluation and state-by-state information on initiating emergency hospitalization and assisted inpatient or outpatient treatment can be found from our Civil Commitment Laws and Standards page.

In practice, a person admitted under this statute  can be held in a State Mental Hospital, such as Chicago-Read Mental Health Center in Chicago for up to five days for evaluation. At the end of that period, if they have not been adjudged by a Court to be a danger to themselves or others, they must be released. Of course many are released at an earlier time if it becomes obvious that they do not belong in a hospital setting.

7 dead, including gunman, in shooting near Calif. college campus

A lawyer for a Hollywood director says he suspects his son carried out a mass shooting near the University of California, Santa Barbara campus late Friday that left seven people dead, including the gunman, and 11 injured in what authorities say was a “premeditated mass murder.”
Authorities have not confirmed the identity of the gunman who was found dead of a gunshot wound to the head at the end of Friday’s rampage. But lawyer Alan Shifman, attorney for Peter Rodger, an assistant director on “The Hunger Games” film series, says that Rodger believes the shooter is his 22-year-old son Elliot Rodger, and that his family had called police weeks before about disturbing YouTube videos he had posted.
Police say a gunman driving a BMW near the university campus carried out the rampage. Authorities described the tragedy as "obviously the work of a mad man."

Elliot Rodger's 140 Page Memoir-Manifesto

"All I ever wanted was to love women, and in turn to loved by them back. Their behavior towards me has only earned my hatred, and rightfully so! I am the true victim in all of this. I am the good guy. Humanity struck at me first by condemning me to experience so much suffering. I didn’t ask for this. I didn’t want this. I didn’t start this war… I wasn’t the one who struck first. But I will finish it by striking back. I will punish everyone. And it will be beautiful. Finally, at long last, I can show the world my true worth."
