Thomas Watson, the founder of IBM, is alleged to have famously said in 1945 that "I think there is a world market for maybe five computers." Whether or not Watson actually said words to this effect, there is no doubt that it is perilous and foolhardy 
to make predictions about anything—let alone where the rapidly emerging field of information governance is heading in 2015 and beyond. So armed only with courage and conviction, and with a tip of the hat to late night's David Letterman, here is a top ten list of prognostications about information governance for the new year.
10.. Data will continue to double every two years —meaning we're halfway towards a doubling by December 2016. OK, this isn't really a prediction—it's a certainty. In 2011, EMC Corp.'s "EMC Digital Universe Study " announced this metric and it seems to be holding true. The fact that we live in an exponential world (at least regarding the growth of data) has profound implications for the field of information governance—most notably, the uphill struggle to fight the good fight on defensible deletion policies.
