Turkey's prime minister said Saturday he will "go after" Twitter, accusing the site of tax-evasion, after it was used to spread damaging leaks implicating his inner circle in corruption claims.

In a televised speech, Recep Tayyip Erdogan also launched a tirade against the nation's highest court for ruling against a ban on Twitter, charging that it put the rights of businesses above that of Turkey's.

"Twitter, YouTube and Facebook are international companies established for profit and making money," Erdogan said.

"Twitter is at the same time a tax evader. We will go after it," he added.

Twitter Data Grants Program Gives Access To Historical Tweets To Researchers

Twitter wants researchers to turn its mountains of data into insights, from flu trends to New Years celebrations, that could delight and help the world. So today it announced the Twitter Data Grants program. Researchers can applyto get free access to Twitter’s public tweets and historical data through one of its official data resellers Gnip.
[Correction: Twitter tells researchers won't get the firehose, though the blog post mentions "With more than 500 million Tweets a day, Twitter has an expansive set of data from which we can glean insights". Instead, researchers will only get the data they need for their project.]

TwitterTWTR +2.69% could become the Web’s next shopping mall.
The short-messaging service is edging towards allowing users to purchase goods directly through the site, according to a person familiar with the company’s plans. The San Francisco company is near to reaching a deal with hometown payments processor Stripe to help facilitate the e-commerce initiative, this person said.
The move would be its first major initiative since bringing former Ticketmaster CEO Nathan Hubbard on board as its new head of commerce in August. Hubbard is still building his team.
