HOW TO MAKE #EMAIL BETTER, FASTER, AND MORE FUN

YOU MAY NEVER REACH INBOX ZERO, BUT YOU CAN MAKE EMAIL MORE BEARABLE WITH THESE TIPS.
We'd all like to live in a world without email, or at least a world with significantly less email. But since your inbox isn't likely to disappear anytime soon, we've found ways to make it better, get through it faster, and dare we say actually make it more fun?

BETTER

Don't open an email unless you're prepared to deal with it right away, says Charles Hudson, author of Inbox Freedom: The Zen Master's Guide to Tackling Your Email & Work. "Instead of camping out at your inbox all day, only open it when you have time to respond, archive, delete, or turn emails into tasks," he says. "Emails aren't so overwhelming when they're handled just once."

Gmail's New Terms Involve Scanning All Your Email

It's not going to impact me, you said at dinner with your parents, while discussing the endlessdeluge of leaked documents detailing the massive NSA spying program, which just netted Pulitzer prizes for both the Guardian and the Washington Post. That's the government. And now Google, which just changed its Terms of Service to clarify that they have the right to scan all of your emails. Not that not telling you has stopped them from doing so before.
This terms of service change follows last year's introduction of their latest inbox (an update on the so-called Priority Inbox), which automatically filters incoming emails into three distinct categories based on a proprietary algorithm used by Google's automated scanning bots.

Moving to restore trust in cloud computing services, Google said Thursday that it has made encrypted HTTPS connections mandatory for Gmail.
"Today's change means that no one can listen in on your messages as they go back and forth between you and Gmail's servers -- no matter if you're using public WiFi or logging in from your computer, phone or tablet," Nicolas Lidzborski, Google security engineering lead, wrote in a blog post.

Google Announces More Secure Gmail

Mar 20th, 2014 by

Starting today, Gmail will always use an encrypted HTTPS connection when you check or send email. Gmail has supported HTTPS since the day it launched, and in 2010 we made HTTPS the default. Today’s change means that no one can listen in on your messages as they go back and forth between you and Gmail’s servers—no matter if you’re using public WiFi or logging in from your computer, phone or tablet.
Additionally, all emails sent or received are encrypted internally ensuring that messages are safe even when moving between Google’s data centers. Google further announces that these security enhancements do not affect the availability of the services since in 2013 Gmail was available 99.978 percent of the time.
